It starts with nothing.

Nine days that six people have agreed to take off work, and not one other thing settled. This is the moment every group trip actually begins, and the moment a group chat is worst at.

Dates first.

Nothing else can be booked until they are fixed, so they get decided rather than drifting. Everyone votes on what works, and the answer becomes the trip's spine instead of a message somebody has to scroll back for.

Then the days fill in.

Anyone in the group can add a stop, and it lands on the day it belongs to rather than in a thread. Nobody is retyping anybody else's suggestion, and there is one version of the plan.

Somebody disagrees.

Versailles on the Tuesday, or a slow day in the Marais. The argument happens on the day it concerns, it gets four votes to two, and the winner drops into the itinerary. This is the part that usually takes a week.

The bookings attach.

The Eurostar, the timed entry at the Orsay, two nights in Shoreditch. Each one sits on its day with its own time, so the question of what happens next is never a question. Confirmations stop living in five separate inboxes.

Costs land where they were spent.

Euros in Paris, pounds for the two days in London, and neither is quietly converted into the other at a rate nobody chose. We hold none of it. Money moves directly between people on rails they already use.

Then you go. And it stays.

The trip happens, and the page does not go cold. It becomes the record: the same object, published, settled, and there when your sister asks how you did it in December. It is not a before and an after. It is the same page twice.
